CVUHSD SARB is centered on creating an emotionally-safe environment and focuses on using a restorative and strength-based relational approach to supporting students and families. In a hearing, the SARB frames the conversation and sets a caring, restorative, and student-focused tone. The restorative community in the SARB hearing is established by using four restorative questions to guide the discovery into the reasons for school refusal, direct a reflection on behavior, consider all affected parties, and work with the family on developing clear expectations to improve the behavior, which is then written into the SARB contract. The expected result is removal of barriers to attendance and returning the student to regular attendance.
